Short term accommodation (STA)

A place for respite, to learn new skills and build independence.

What is short term accommodation (STA)?

STA is a place for people with disabilities to stay for a short break — to build up new skills, try new things and have a break from home. It is also known as respite care.

You can relax and have fun in a safe space, with 24/7 care and home cooked meals. You can do all the things you like to do — whether that’s dancing, movie nights, getting out to the footy, video games or going to a music festival!

You can stay for one to 14 days, depending on what you need and what is in your National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) usually funds up to 28 days of short term accomodation per year.

Where do we provide short term accommodation (STA)?

We have one home in Frankston, in Melbourne’s south-east, and one in Macleod, in Melbourne’s north.

How can we support people in short term accommodation (STA)?

Clients in STA are supported by:

  • 24/7 personal care from experienced support workers
  • a safe and comfortable space tailored to your specific needs, including any behaviours of concern (which we have plenty of experience supporting!)
  • a chance to try new activities and develop new life skills (see our STA packages below)
  • home cooked meals
  • fun activities, outings, social experiences or learning opportunities — completely tailored to you.

We make sure other people who are staying at the same time as you are a good match for you.

Who can access short term accommodation (STA)?

Anybody who has an NDIS plan with Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life budget. This funding can be used flexibly for various supports, including STA.

The NDIS generally funds 28 days of STA per year, one to 14 days at a time.

We can help you understand your NDIS plan and funding, please contact us [link to contact us form below] for more information.

Our STA packages

We offer a range of packages to meet different NDIS goals:

  • Open our short term accommodation packages information document [link to PDF attached – I know this isn’t best practice but it’s the only thing we can keep up to date at this stage, and it’s useful for Support Coordinators to print]

You can also contact us [link to contact us form below] and we can talk through the best options for you.

Can you provide in-home respite?

Absolutely — we do this through our 1:1 support service.
