Supported independent living (SIL)

Daily support at home for an independent life.

What is supported independent living (SIL)?

SIL is a type of help funded by the NDIS that supports people with disabilities to live more independently.  If you want to move out of home but still need support with daily tasks, SIL can provide trained support workers to assist you.

Your support workers will help you to build up your skills too so you can be as independent as possible.

You can live in a shared home with housemates or in a place that suits your needs. We offer SIL in more than 50 homes across the north, west and south-east suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria.

We will match you with the right home, housemates and support to help you feel comfortable, safe, and happy. We love seeing the special bonds that are often built in SIL homes – full of laughs and learning!

What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

  • Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) is a type of house built specifically for people with disabilities. It often has special features like wide doorways, wheelchair access, assistive technology or hoists.
  • Supported independent living (SIL) is the help you receive in the home provided by your support workers.

These are two different things the NDIS can fund in your NDIS plan.

We are SIL providers but not SDA providers. We partner with several SDA partners to offer disability housing options:

How can we support people in SIL?

Supported independent living (SIL) can help with things like:

  • personal care (showering, dressing)
  • cooking and meal planning
  • shopping and budgeting
  • taking medication safely
  • cleaning and household tasks
  • travel training
  • getting out into the community.

We can tailor the service to your goals.
