Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Moving out of home is the biggest and most emotional decision you will ever make. That’s why you need to be in partnership with an experienced provider who can support you every step of the way.

St John of God Accord has been supporting people with disability to live independently for 41 years.

One of the first things you must do is talk to your NDIS Support coordinator about having funding for Supported Independent Living (SIL) included in your plan.

Access to SIL funding will ensure that while you live out of home you are provided with opportunities to increase your independence, form meaningful friendships, and to be part of your local community. As you transition into your new home, our focus is on 24/7 person-centred active support that assists each person to get more out of life.

We pride ourselves in creating a unique SIL model for each person aligned with their NDIS plan as we understand that no one size fits all.

How we support clients in supported independent living

Our staff assist with and supervise tasks of daily life to maintain and develop the skills of individuals to live as independently as possible.

These skills may include:

  • Personal care
  • Cooking
  • Shopping
  • Budgeting
  • Medication management
  • Cleaning
  • Travel training
  • Attending appointments
  • Accessing the local community

Our SIL team take the time to get to know each person and carefully match them to a home with the right people who share similar personalities, interests and goals. We work with you to ensure a smooth individualised transition.

We are here to support you every step of the way. SIL is NDIS funded and we will help you with your NDIS rostering plan submission. We will work comprehensively with you and your family to ensure that the right living circumstances and roster of care are developed to meet  all your support needs and goals.

We provide full time support and care in a variety of supported housing options including:

  • Shared Living - Individuals who choose to move into a home and live with a similar group of people.
  • Bequest Home Management - Individuals who wish to bequest their home so their loved ones can remain living in the family home
  • Complex Capacity Building Model of Support - 24/7 support in a home environment supporting individuals with complex support needs, dual diagnosis or behaviours of concern
  • Supporting you in an SDA home - individuals who require additional support for their everyday needs in a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home.
