What is school leavers employment supports (SLES)?

SLES is a two-year program designed to help with the transition from school to employment.

Employment may be a paid job, or a voluntary role, or some other kind of meaningful occupation. It’s all about you and your goals!

We know that having a job can build confidence and help you make friends, while earning some money.

What’s the difference between SLES and employment services (ES)?

SLES is typically funded for two years by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as a stepping stone program from school into meaningful occupation.

Employment services (ES) provides similar support, but is available for people of any age or stage. It uses capacity building funding from your NDIS plan with a specific goal in mind, such as finding a job, or developing some workplace skills.

We are happy to talk you through this if you have questions.

Where do we provide SLES?

Our SLES program is a combination of group-based classroom work, and work experience out in the community. The places we go are based on you and your unique goals.

Our group-based classroom work is generally from our Greensborough campus: 108-130 Diamond Creek Road, Greensborough VIC 3088.

How can we support people through SLES?

The journey starts with understanding you! Your interests, goals, skills and capabilities. We’ll work together to map out the steps to get to your goals.

We will build up your work skills through a range of engaging group and 1:1 sessions. This can include things like building up your confidence, practicing turn taking, travel training and conversation.

Our experienced employment support workers are in your corner and with you every step of the way.

We can help facilitate work experience in a variety of settings, fully tailored to your interests and comfort levels.

Who can access SLES?

SLES and ES are both funded by the NDIS under the ‘Finding and keeping a job’ support category. SLES is block funded (a set cost), and ES is more flexible.
