Group programs
Skill-building activities and experiences, based on your interests.
What are group programs?
Our structured programs of support are all about improving your social, recreational and daily living skills.
We run programs 50 weeks of the year, across our three community campuses at Greensborough, Glenroy and Sydenham.
Whether you enjoy cooking, ceramics, drama, graphic design, sports or video production — with over 50 programs to choose from, there’s something for almost everyone!
Where do we provide group programs?
We have three community campuses:
- Greensborough (GCC): 108-130 Diamond Creek Road, Greensborough VIC 3088
- Glenroy (GLCC): 135 Melbourne Ave, Glenroy VIC 3046
- Sydenham (SCC): 551 Melton Highway, Sydenham VIC 3037
How can we support people through group programs?
Each program of support has a specific intended outcome and timeframe.
For example our tennis program, delivered by qualified tennis coaches, aims to improve movement, strokes, shots, catch and throwing over 24 weeks. This provides benefits like physical and mental wellbeing, team building, gross motor skills, fun, structure — and the list goes on!
Group programs are a great opportunity to socialise, interact in groups of people and create lasting friendships. All while enjoying learning, new experiences and interesting activities — both on campus and in the wider community.
Some of the highlights of our group programs include our annual Footy Day (where the campuses play each other), our celebrations for St John of God Day, our plays and concerts, and a crowd favourite is our discos — we even have a Valentine’s Day disco! You can check out some of these on our social media channels:
Our group programs are offered in two blocks per year and run from Monday to Friday. We also run holiday programs. There is some form of program running for 50 weeks of the year.
What are the staffing ratios for group programs?
Our current staffing ratios are one support worker to three clients (1:3) and one support worker to one client (1:1).
In certain situations, these ratios may be combined to create a larger group. For instance, two groups with a 1:3 ratio and one group with a 1:1 ratio would require three support workers for seven clients.
The ratio at which you will be supported will depend on your individual support needs within the group environment. We discuss needs to determine whether you require a 1:3 ratio (one support worker to three clients) or a 1:1 ratio (one support worker to one client) or if a combination of both ratios is necessary for your support.
