Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability

The Federal Government has established a Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.

The Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission will examine what should be done and when to:

• Prevent, and better protect, people with disability from experiencing violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation
• Achieve best practice in reporting and investigating of, and responding to, violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation
• Promote a more inclusive society that supports the independence of people with disability and their right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation

St John of God Accord believes that everyone deserves the best care in life and we fully support the Royal Commission. Each person should be able to make their own decisions about how they might contribute and participate in the Royal Commission, including the opportunity it presents to advance the rights of Australians with disability.

St John of God Accord is committed to delivering high quality services and providing a safe environment for people with disability. We continue to review and implement policies, procedures, training and best practices to better safeguard people with disability. Our holistic approach covers physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing, giving clients the chance to thrive in safe and supportive environments.

We continually encourage transparency in order to promote a more inclusive society that supports the independence of people with disability and their right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

St John of God Accord’s required participation in the Royal Commission is currently unknown, however we will keep you informed about our involvement as the Commission progresses.  We remain alert and vigilant.
